Mendocino Spay-Neuter Assistance Program

UKIAH NATURAL FOODS CO-OP CUSTOMERS GIVES GENEROUSLY TO SNAP

DECEMBER 2021 ROUND UP @ THE REGISTER!

The Ukiah Natural Foods CO-OP Round Up at the Register Program gives CO-OP shoppers the opportunity to donate to a different local non-profit organization each month. At checkout, shoppers may round up their purchase to the nearest dollar, the difference of which will be donated to one dedicated non-profit organization. The organization will receive 100% of the collected donations. The cycle of each organization is one month, and a check is issued to the organization the following month.

SNAP volunteer, Julie Simental is a CO-OP shopper and when she heard about this program she submitted an application for SNAP. We were extremely excited when we received the news that SNAP was awarded the Round Up Program for the month of December! The total amount of $2872.68 was raised for SNAP! WE WISH TO THANK THE UKIAH CO-OP FOR THE GREAT OPPORTUNITY AND A BIG THANK YOU TO THE CO-OP SHOPPERS FOR SUPPORTING OUR CAUSE!!

Mendocino Spay-Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) was established in 1991 and is an all-volunteer 501(c)3, non-profit organization dedicated solely to offering affordable spay/neuter alternatives for dogs and cats in the hopes of bringing an end to the needless suffering they endure as a result of overpopulation. SNAP is an all volunteer organization. Management of all spay/neuter programs, fund-raising, and administrative functions are performed strictly by volunteers.

SNAP strives to increase spay and neuter procedures for cats and dogs in inland Mendocino County. We provide direct financial assistance to those people who are caring for animals and cannot afford the fees. We encourage those who can afford the expense to pay for it themselves. Our humane education program promotes spay and neuter and humane treatment of companion animals.

Since Pet Photos with Santa is our only fundraiser, we have been thinking about other ways to bring in donations. That is when we came up with offering a SNAP tote bag for a $50.00 or more donation. We worked with STARKEY Custom Apparel & Promotions, a local business in Ukiah who helped us create a design that promotes Spay & Neuter. We are extremely happy and excited with the end result of this canvas tote. If you want to show your support for SNAP with one of these tote bags, please complete and mail the donation form enclosed with this Newsletter along with your $50.00 donation. We will mail you one of these beautiful bags. Get yours while supplies last!

Please mail your donation to SNAP P.O. BOX 4 Talmage, CA 95481 Include your name, address and phone number and we will mail you your tote promptly!

A PetSmart Charities Grant for SNAP

As some of you may remember, in 2018 we applied and received an $18,000 grant from PetSmart Charities to cover the cost of spaying/ neutering of 255 dogs and cats from the many Native American Reservations in Mendocino County during 2019. With that money we were able to help 124 dogs and 140 cats with a total of 264 animals. What a difference we have made in the lives of those animals. There are no spay/neuter grants available in this year’s grant cycle from PetSmart Charities but we will apply again when we can in the hopes that we can continue this crucial work. We truly appreciate all that PetSmart Charities does, not just for our county but all across the nation. If you ever find yourself shopping at any PetSmart store and they ask if you want to donate to their charity, please remember that it all comes back to our communities.

This means that your donations are needed more than ever. We know there are many wonderful charities to choose from, so we very much appreciate it when you choose to help SNAP!

Thank you to our sponsors!
